Scriabin and Ellington are two of the great architects of tensions within concise forms; in the case of the Scriabin Prelude quoted here, only 12 bars. It was the classical composition of Sophisticated Lady that inspired my arrangement, and the lyrical tune speaks for itself without need of improvisation.
